Is it common, normal for Kids?

I took my 41/5 yr old daughter to dentis for cavity filling. I had no idea that they were going to lay her on bed and strapped her up from chest to legs. My God what i have went through looking at her, she was crying like hell!!!! Yes i had consultation with them before her acutall cavity cleaning and cap. They only asked me that what I want to do pull her tooth out or put a cap on I opt for a cap and they didn't mention that if a Child doesn't cooperate they have to go through torture...I read the reviews online for this dentist place and its filled with compliments that they put cartoons for them and use many distraction methods for kids to keep them distracted, but none of it happened. Now the thing is Is it normal, commong for dentists to strap the kids and do the procedure or else how would they let them do it? Or is it just me went through severe trauma watching her in torture?
