CA- Summons and Complaint in Door?

I am behind in rent. I was given a 3-day notice and did not pay what was due. An UD summons and complaint was stuck in my door when I arrived home at 10pm. It had been filed the same day, so due diligence was not the issue. There was no proof of service either. Does the 5 day to answer apply or other suggestions.
